FEAR

Surrendering to new possibilities gives power to unlocking your destiny. Be open and available to new opportunity and you will open doors to new experiences. Passion in life is waiting to be found. Release your thoughts, worries, and fears to relieve any struggles you may face. “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” Charge forward and dive in to your own life with faith and hope. The universe is waiting for you.

Stay open to the signs around you. At times they will smack you in the face. The reminder is worth the positive outlook they bring to your journey. Be a living example of strength and confidence. Make good choices, believe in yourself, and everything is possible. Fight for this positive life and it will soon become your reality. When times get tough listen to the inner voice that lives from your heart and resides in your gut. Everyone lives from a beautiful, loving, and compassionate self. Choose to tap into your good qualities and slowly weed out the negative thoughts that live in your head. Tap into your higher self and time after time it will prove to lead you in the right direction.

Take the necessary steps to clear your slate of anything that may be holding you back. Be aware of the people you have in your life. Do they promote happiness and positive action? Do they believe in you and support you as you reach for your goals? You choose the people that make up your support system and you are a product of your environment. Choose your world wisely. Be the friend you would want in your life and expect the same in return.

Be your own best friend. Control the thoughts that enter your mind. Don’t allow negative thoughts of worry, fear, and doubt be the misery that comforts you. You deserve life, you are good enough, you can succeed, and you are beautiful. Free yourself by believing in you. Look in the mirror and be proud of the reflection staring back at you. Everyday is a new chance to live your truth. Be honest with yourself and take control of your own life. Live without regret by making good decisions. Make a stand today to alleviate the negative aspects of your life. Create a life you love and the possibilities are endless.

Inspiration is all you need to be the best you, you can be. Discipline is what it takes to set action in motion. “Be the winner in your own reality. When you give into conflict and negative thought you give into defeat. You are better then that and have a much bigger purpose in life. So be the bigger person and fight for the beautiful life you believe in.”

“The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself.”

Audition Advice

Coming from White Oak Dance Academy in the small town of Warrensburg, Missouri, I had little perception of what to expect upon my arrival to Los Angeles in 2001. I spent my summers in New York training with scholarships I won in competitions from the ages of 12 to 17. These scholarships awarded me training at the Broadway Dance Center, Steps on Broadway, and the Joffrey Ballet Company. The serious business attitude and discipline I acquired from training in New York was the only knowledge I had as far as working in the dance business. Arriving in Los Angeles to Brian Friedman’s advanced jazz class at the Edge Performing Arts Center was culture shock to say the least.

Classically trained, fresh from dancing on cruise ships for a year, I showed up looking my best. Prepared for class in a yellow leotard, black tights, hair slicked back in a bun and black jazz shoes. As I set down my bag and scanned the room I realized I didn’t quite fit in. Everyone was wearing baggy pants, ripped shirts, bras, hats, piercings, colored hair and all types of boots and tennis shoes. Insecurity rushed over me as I took the floor and waited patiently to show off my art and hope for opportunity. I could barely keep up as the class progressed and I was constantly behind about four counts the whole time. Not only did I not fit in, but also I had a lot to learn!

I showed up an hour early to my first Los Angeles audition at Debbie Reynolds. I was expecting to secure a spot in front close to the mirrors of the soon to be crowded room. I stretched as the room filled with people. I vividly remember two loud, obnoxious, girls walking in the room, talking loudly on their cell phones and acting rambunctious. Disrupting the whole room for a moment as everyone took notice. The choreographer takes the floor explaining why we are there. As I being attentive and listening to the instructions, the two girls brush past me as they bully their way to the front. Finally they take their place directly in front of me. I let out a big sigh as feelings of frustration and anger come over me. I had come early for that spot! Obviously affected by my presence one of the girls turns to face me. She tosses her head flipping her hair over one shoulder, staring at me with her black smudged eyes and smacking her gloss filled lips as she chomps on her gum. “Welcome to Hollywood,” she says. Boiling on the inside in disbelief, I kept the feelings to myself. In celebration of the wonderful world of karma, I smiled to myself as both of them were cut from the audition and sent home.

Dance does not stand for Diva. The way we present ourselves and interact with one another in a professional atmosphere shapes the industry we count on for survival. Take pride in the foundation that shapes your opportunity. Choose the level of respect you have for your passion and inspiring other people’s lives wisely. Be aware of your surroundings and your mirror space. Allow the people behind you enough space to see themselves. We all know the importance of the reflection in the mirror as foreign moves settle into your body.

Deodorant will help save the room from a destructible stench. A towel to wipe away your sweat between groups will ensure a safe and dry dance floor. Keep headshots, resumes, and a few clothes options in your car to have on hand at all times. Don’t give them a reason to cut you because you aren’t dressed the part and don’t give yourself an excuse not to make an audition because you’re not prepared. If you want a good spot in front then arrive early!

For the ladies in Los Angeles, we all know that body conscience clothes are inevitable in 90% of our auditions. Always have a pair of black briefs with a crotch 2 inches in width to ensure there are no mishaps. For ladies in small tops, top-stick will ensure no nipples pop out. Heels will be the second requirement in 90% of audition calls. Remember, walking in heels is an art form and dancing in heels is not easy. Buy a pair of black heels you feel comfortable dancing in. Boots are usually better because they support your ankles. Be picky as you choose your perfect pair and keep them on hand at all times. You could be stuck in them for long periods of time and you don’t want unbearable blisters to get in your way. Control depends on feeling your center. Choose heels that aren’t too tall or too short. If they’re too high it will be difficult to control your body. If they’re too short you risk losing beautiful lines due to short, stubby looking legs. For me, two and a half inches is the perfect height.

We create the world of dance we live in. The success and growth of our precious working world of dance depends on us as individuals. Having respect for the craft we believe in will ensure its expansion in the entertainment industry. Create your own set of positive rules to live by. Opportunity is waiting for you. You never know, the person standing next to you at an audition today could be the choreographer hiring you at an audition tomorrow.

Pics: Doll Domination Tour, Brisbane (Australia)

May 19th 2009.

Pussycat Dolls and Lady GaGa ignite Brisbane!

Certainly enough to draw 9500 Brisbanites on a rainy Tuesday night. The cat ears in the audience said it was the dolls night (May 19th 2009).
But given a longer set, their former songwriter Lady Gaga could easily upstaged them.
"I see a couple of pussies over here," the 23-year-old said while belting out her number one hit Just Dance "But that could have been just the kids who weren't dancing."
Plenty of performers with less musical ability pull off the same effect with all the costume changes, video montages and backup dancers.

But Lady Gaga was most compelling sitting alone, (save a crash test dummy beside her) at a pink piano banging out a stripped out version of Poker Face.
The singer was impressed the crowd knew every word.
"You don't even need me, I am just a blonde bitch in a bunch of bubbles but I'm OK with that. Shall we have a little Brisbane singalong?"
Renowned for her wacky costumes courtesy of The Haus of Gaga, the Versace acolyte began with a striking one-piece featuring a large isosceles triangle and clasping a yellow sceptre. She sported a short white wig throughout which made her resemble uncannily Kylie Minogue.
The Dolls, created by a choreographer, did what they do best - dance while Scherzinger did most of the real singing. Their 16-song set was studded with pop hits such as the hip hop-infused Buttons, current chart smash hit Jai Ho and breakthrough hit Don't Cha.

EVOLUTION.

Looking out at the beautiful mountain countryside enveloped by nature I am at peace. Listening to the buzzing of living creatures all around me, knowing I’m a guest in their everyday work. The forest is an international highway for insects. Being in Ojai, California brings great perspective on life and the realities we choose to live. Much like humans, every species in the forest must play their part to exist.

Nature is energy and everything is living. By taking a dip in the natural swimming pool built by nature from a stream making its way down from the mountaintop I am very aware of this electric energy. Watching a snake swim through the water and bugs drop down for a drink is simple reality. This is not my home but rather I’m a guest amongst many species of wildlife. Humans are so out of touch with the world they share with nature. Building cities that make so much noise it scares all wildlife away. As animals starve due to our choices as a whole, we watch our televisions, feel sorry for them, then quickly change the channel and go on about our every day lives.

As I slowly hike through the woods, up and over big boulders of the creek, I meticulously check my footing before each climb. As I think about the law of nature and survival I have a thought, “If I fought nature, nature would definitely win”. Our home on Earth is precious yet we destroy it for our own comfort. At what point does nature finally decide enough is enough? Our land is such a powerful force we foolishly play with.

At night, sitting by the fire, I feel the comfort of warmth against my face. Taking time to understand the simplicity of the true meaning of life. The gift we are given so graciously to do, as we like with. This gift comes with such great power of good and evil. The rules and regulations we aspire to have for ourselves, and the work we put into developing our skills is what sets us apart as individuals. As we create our own character we become aware of the angels and demons that live inside of us. Conscience creation of positive outcome is the motivation to inspire good living. Seek good and you will find it. You are the creator in your own life.

As the fire burns I patiently wait, anticipating the moon’s climb over the mountainside. As the peak of the full moon rises it’s magnificent light pours over the mountain and fills the sky. I have no choice but to celebrate such a sight. You may choose to be blind to the illusion of magic but magic certainly exists. When you are open and free to the beauty of life around you, it lives on.

The ending and beginning of nature’s workdays is apparent. Sounds of the natural world change around me as nocturnal beings come to life. A simple thump in the woods brings out the natural instinct of survival. What if it’s a Mountain Lion or a Bear? Thinking the worst could be the type of thinking that saves you. Making a much bigger noise in competition for territory to scare it away seems to be the instinctual thing to do. This survival mode developed into the evolution of human beings.

We evolved into beings of knowledge, using our brains for survival. Building cities to claim territory for predators to fear. As our evolution increased the greed for comfort took over. The resources we continue to use up are the very resources needed for natural survival. Our greed in comfort is now the leader in our own demise. Will our instinct for survival be the purpose of our own extinction?

“If we continue to fight nature, nature will win.”

Inspiration for Success

I know that becoming a professional dancer is not always an easy journey. Questions constantly arise and finding answers can seem to be impossible at times. The amount of knowledge I’ve acquired through my passion and drive for chasing my dreams is plentiful. In return I have the bigger purpose to help others on their journeys. No two dancers ever travel the exact same path but we certainly can learn from each other’s experiences. If you know in your heart that your passion for dance is your destiny then we are similar creatures and you will benefit from my stories and teachings.

Translating the art of dance into the job you live from is complicated. Dance is an outlet of expression but what happens when you rely on it to pay your bills? You learn a new perspective of your craft. This perspective will help you transition yourself into a product investors are willing to invest in. The discipline you’ve learned through perfecting your craft will be used in your everyday life. The burning desire to succeed will set you apart from your competition at auditions. By being the observer, listening and applying all that you see and hear, you will gain the knowledge you need to go far.

Coming from a pop group that sings, “dontcha wish your girlfriend was hot like me,” in skimpy costumes may not seem ideal to some. But I have had the best journey and the best experiences I could ever imagine. As dance grows as a profession, the understanding of what dance represents will follow. As each of us from the community of dance takes on new roads never traveled we will soon map out more and more opportunity for generations to come. The passion remains the same and the ability to create a platform is worth it all. I’ve traveled the world sharing my craft and the reflection of inspiration I receive from the faces of my fans is what confirms I’m in the right place.

Your craft of dance will be an outlet that changes other people’s lives. Each opportunity you get to share your years of hard work is a blessing. Take hold of living in the moment and allow the bigger purpose of connecting with others shine through your every move.

When you choose the life of a dancer you have chosen the life of serving others. By striving to be the best you can be in every performance you will be the guiding light of hope and faith.

Continue to see me here on DanceSpirit.com for stories, advice, insight, and inspiration. If you have any questions on becoming a professional dancer or have general questions for me, post them on the comment board. Attach my name and I will soon have answers for you in my future blogs.

Light and love to you all,
Kimberly

Kimberly's Latest Blog (May 11th 2009)

AN AWAKENING

Doing your best, following your heart and doing the right thing will often lead you to complicated decisions. There will be times when a fork in the road leaves you confused. Blindly you listen to your heart, face your fears and uncomfortable feelings and take the leap of faith. Life’s not always easy. But facing life head on and taking all that it offers will reap rewards. You are the ruler of your reality and are constantly manifesting your destiny.

By following your dreams with a clear mind and good intentions you will be the leader in life situations. Never allow greed, power, or ego take hold of you. Stay conscience of your reality and work at staying grounded. When faced with the monster of unfortunate circumstances in people’s choices, don’t cower. Stand proud and speak your truth with calm and understanding words. Be the example of strength in living a good, pure, and honest life. Be the light that shines in the creation of your destiny. People will feel your warmth in honesty and understanding. This is the most powerful tool when connecting with other people.

Shadows will become light and the gloom of the world will be destroyed. People will walk free from there personal karmas. Awakening the beauty in your surroundings will become the right choice. Its time to feel the sunshine’s rays beat down warmly on your face. Time to smile in the rain and dance with the thunder. Organically our minds will change the now we live in.

Every generation deserves the chance and our chance is now. Making changes in our own lives, overcoming our obstacles and living with love and compassion are the tools. The responsibility is then to use those tools to spread love to the rest of the world. Everyone needs a leader, be the helping hand for others to follow. Have faith for a purpose much bigger then yourself. “Everything happens for a reason.”

The Pussycat Dolls Ft. Nicole Scherzinger?

Does the headline speak for itsself? Is this possibly true? The supposedly new name of the Pussycat Dolls? Yea, its crazy isnt it. I have been looking around at news articles perhaps featuring the dolls of course and I stumble across a TMZ article with Nicole & Roselyn Sanchez. The article talks about how they are both alike in facial features. But, they described both of them and TMZ said "Lead Singer Nicole, from the Pussycat Dolls featuring Nicole Scherzinger". Is this fair? I thought this was just for "Jai Ho" and "Hush Hush" title. And now I stumble accross another news article saying:

Before getting to Brits, a more legitimate historical moment may have occurred this night: the last live performance of the act known as The Pussycat Dolls.

Now officially billed as The Pussycat Dolls featuring Nicole Scherzinger, a few of the Dolls have made their displeasure with the news of Diana, er, Nicole getting the special treatment. And while sympathies abound, considering Nicole pretty much sings lead on all their hits, rumors of the groups demise don't seem that off track. There was no formal announcement on stage, but it seemed like an overly emotional night for Nicole especially and a few of the other Dolls as well. Was it just because their tag-along opening gig for Spears as coming to a close (the group is not following her to Europe and beyond) or something else?

New Kimberly Blog: Be the bigger person (05-02-09)

Be the bigger person.

Don’t let other people’s wrong doing or attitudes shape your life. Often we allow ourselves to be drug into the whirlwinds around us. We give power to others by allowing their actions or words to control our feelings. Get a hold of yourself by being aware of what’s going on around you and how it affects you. When you see or feel yourself slipping into reaction take steps to counteract it. Be aware enough to acknowledge what feelings you are slipping into and do the work within the situation to find the lesson. By doing the work at that moment we take back our own power.

First be aware of how your body reacts to your mind. Someone says something or gives you a look that we perceive as an attack. Your mind fills with dialogue of reactions. We tell the person and or the situation off in our minds. Phrases like, “I was only trying to help”, “what is wrong with you”, “you are so stupid”. Your body tenses and these choices create the whirlwind of your own perception. You join the spinning whirlwind of destruction until you acknowledge what is happening and take control.

Allowing moments to effect your days is silly in the grand scheme of life. You have interactions with people and the outcome of these interactions creates your character. If you leave the situation allowing it to constantly be on your mind and effect you then they win. Instead, know your worth. You are the queen of your world and you create your own reality. By making positive choice in the heat of an argument, gossip, or a misunderstanding you prevail. Thus allowing you to leave negative situations with positive reaction of choosing the lesson to never make the same choices as that person, understanding what you could have done to avoid the situation, or simply being proud of your choices in handling yourself.

Tell yourself to breathe. Often I breathe in and think or say out loud, “I breathe in the good”, then breathe out and say, “out with the bad.” I repeat this behavior and continually acknowledge the dialogue in my head and replace it with positive thoughts. Be your own mentor, your own best friend. Take negative thoughts like “I can’t stand this person”, and replace it with “I refuse to allow this person to ruin my day, I am better then this”.

Continue to breathe deeply and reflect on why your positive choice is the better reaction. Instead of giving into the fight, which many are searching for, don’t give them what they want. Stay calm through your breath and speak your truth. Always speak and react with compassion and love. You have the power to guide the interactions in your life. The work in loving life and loving yourself will show progress when you are able to handle yourself with calmness and understanding. Never place blame on others. Always speak from “I” and “My”. If you have something to say start with, “I understand you are angry, I’m sorry you feel this way” or “My intentions were never to hurt you”.

I always say, “When you point a finger, you have three fingers pointing back at you”. Life can get you down if you allow it. Be the winner in your own reality. When you give into conflict and negative thought you give into defeat. You are better then that and have a much bigger purpose in life. So be the bigger person and fight for the beautiful life you believe in. “Dream and Believe.”

New Tourdates!

PCD will stay in Europe a little bit longer!

All these shows seem to be part of summer festivals rather than say a second UK leg of the DD Tour (Although its very likely to be the same show)

22nd July - Liverpool Echo Arena - Summer Pops Festival - (Tickets on sale 8th May)
24th July - Silverstone Racing Circuit - (Tickets on sale now) [Support Act Blue]
25th July - Quex Park, Near Margate, Kent - Part of the Sound Island Festival - (Tickets on sale 5th May)

Those who are planning to attend the concert in Manila on 11th June can also claim a 50% reduction of the ticket price! No reason not to go now! Check out this site for more information http://www.clear.com.ph/dolldomination/
