EVOLUTION.
Looking out at the beautiful mountain countryside enveloped by nature I am at peace. Listening to the buzzing of living creatures all around me, knowing I’m a guest in their everyday work. The forest is an international highway for insects. Being in Ojai, California brings great perspective on life and the realities we choose to live. Much like humans, every species in the forest must play their part to exist.
Nature is energy and everything is living. By taking a dip in the natural swimming pool built by nature from a stream making its way down from the mountaintop I am very aware of this electric energy. Watching a snake swim through the water and bugs drop down for a drink is simple reality. This is not my home but rather I’m a guest amongst many species of wildlife. Humans are so out of touch with the world they share with nature. Building cities that make so much noise it scares all wildlife away. As animals starve due to our choices as a whole, we watch our televisions, feel sorry for them, then quickly change the channel and go on about our every day lives.
As I slowly hike through the woods, up and over big boulders of the creek, I meticulously check my footing before each climb. As I think about the law of nature and survival I have a thought, “If I fought nature, nature would definitely win”. Our home on Earth is precious yet we destroy it for our own comfort. At what point does nature finally decide enough is enough? Our land is such a powerful force we foolishly play with.
At night, sitting by the fire, I feel the comfort of warmth against my face. Taking time to understand the simplicity of the true meaning of life. The gift we are given so graciously to do, as we like with. This gift comes with such great power of good and evil. The rules and regulations we aspire to have for ourselves, and the work we put into developing our skills is what sets us apart as individuals. As we create our own character we become aware of the angels and demons that live inside of us. Conscience creation of positive outcome is the motivation to inspire good living. Seek good and you will find it. You are the creator in your own life.
As the fire burns I patiently wait, anticipating the moon’s climb over the mountainside. As the peak of the full moon rises it’s magnificent light pours over the mountain and fills the sky. I have no choice but to celebrate such a sight. You may choose to be blind to the illusion of magic but magic certainly exists. When you are open and free to the beauty of life around you, it lives on.
The ending and beginning of nature’s workdays is apparent. Sounds of the natural world change around me as nocturnal beings come to life. A simple thump in the woods brings out the natural instinct of survival. What if it’s a Mountain Lion or a Bear? Thinking the worst could be the type of thinking that saves you. Making a much bigger noise in competition for territory to scare it away seems to be the instinctual thing to do. This survival mode developed into the evolution of human beings.
We evolved into beings of knowledge, using our brains for survival. Building cities to claim territory for predators to fear. As our evolution increased the greed for comfort took over. The resources we continue to use up are the very resources needed for natural survival. Our greed in comfort is now the leader in our own demise. Will our instinct for survival be the purpose of our own extinction?
“If we continue to fight nature, nature will win.”
